About the Seal
A seal is a smooth, round-bodied sea mammal with flippers instead of legs, at home both in the water and hauled out on rocks and beaches. A thick layer of blubber keeps it warm in cold seas, and it can hold its breath for a long time while diving for fish. On land seals move by wriggling, but in the water they are quick and graceful swimmers. Add this to an ocean unit and trace the path from nose to flippers.
- Seals are mammals, so they breathe air and surface for breath.
- A layer of blubber under the skin keeps a seal warm in cold water.
- Seals use their flippers to swim and to shuffle along on land.
