About the Clownfish
The clownfish is a small, brightly colored reef fish, most often orange with white stripes. It makes its home among the stinging arms of a sea anemone, which would hurt most fish but not the clownfish, whose slimy coating protects it. In return, the clownfish helps keep its anemone clean and chases away fish that would nibble it. Print this for a coral-reef unit and trace the path through to the anemone.
- A clownfish shelters safely among a sea anemone's stinging tentacles.
- A special slime coat keeps the anemone's sting from hurting it.
- All clownfish hatch as males, and some later become females.
