About the Scallop
A scallop is a shellfish with two fan-shaped shells, often marked with pretty ridges that spread out from the hinge. Unlike most shellfish, a scallop can swim, clapping its two shells together to squirt out water and jet away from danger. Along the edge of its shell sit rows of tiny blue eyes. Use this in an ocean unit and trace the ridges of the fan-shaped shell.
- A scallop swims by rapidly clapping its two shells together.
