About the Seahorse
A seahorse is a small fish with a head shaped like a horse's and a curled tail it uses to grip. Instead of scales it wears rings of bony armor, and it swims upright, drifting slowly and holding onto seaweed with that tail. One of the strangest things about seahorses is that the father, not the mother, carries the growing babies in a pouch. Add this to an ocean unit and have kids trace the path down the curled tail.
- In seahorses, the father carries the eggs in a pouch until the babies are born.
- A seahorse grips seaweed with its curling tail so it does not drift away.
- Despite their odd shape, seahorses are true fish.
