About the Parrotfish
The parrotfish is a brightly colored reef fish with front teeth fused into a hard beak, like a parrot's. It uses that beak to scrape algae off coral, grinding up bits of the coral as it eats. Amazingly, what comes out the other end is fine white sand, so parrotfish help make the sandy beaches of tropical islands. Print this for a coral-reef unit and trace the path to the parrotfish's beak.
- A parrotfish has front teeth fused into a hard, parrot-like beak.
- It scrapes algae and coral off the reef with that beak.
