About the Rose
The rose is a woody flowering plant in the genus Rosa, grown for the large, showy blooms that come in white, pink, red, orange, and yellow. There are more than three hundred wild species and tens of thousands of garden varieties bred over the centuries. Many kinds carry sharp prickles along their stems, the pointed growths most people call thorns. Trace the petals on this printable, then color the flower any shade a real rose can wear.
- The sharp points on a rose stem are properly called prickles, not thorns.
- Roses range from low shrubs to climbers that can reach about seven meters tall.
- After the petals drop, roses form fruits called rose hips that are rich in vitamin C.
