About the Cherry Blossom
The cherry blossom, or sakura, is the flower of ornamental cherry trees rather than the kind grown for fruit. In spring the branches fill with clouds of pale pink and white five-petaled flowers. The blossoms are said to carry a faint vanilla-like scent, which comes from a substance called coumarin. Their short bloom makes a nice seasonal craft, so print this one when the trees flower and color the branch in drifts of pink.
- The vanilla-like smell of cherry blossoms comes from a compound called coumarin.
- Sakura are ornamental cherries, grown for their flowers rather than for fruit.
- Cherry blossoms last only about a week before the petals fall.
