About the Violin
The violin is the smallest and highest-sounding member of the string family, sometimes called a fiddle. It has a hollow wooden body and four strings, usually played by drawing a bow across them, though a player can also pluck them with a finger. Its clear, singing voice often carries the melody in an orchestra. This printable fits a strings lesson, and the curled scroll at the top makes a natural place to start tracing.
- A violin's four strings are tuned in fifths: G, D, A, and E.
- Plucking the strings instead of bowing them is called pizzicato.
- The violin is the highest-pitched of the regular violin-family instruments.
