About the Trumpet
The trumpet is a brass instrument played by buzzing your lips into a small cup-shaped mouthpiece. Pressing its three valves changes the path of the air to sound different notes, and its bright tone can cut right through a whole band. The trumpet family runs from the tiny piccolo trumpet, the highest brass voice, down to the deep bass trumpet. Add this to a brass-section lesson and let children follow the path from mouthpiece to bell.
- The sound starts with the player's buzzing lips, not a reed or a string.
- The piccolo trumpet plays the highest notes in the whole brass family.
- A trumpet in B-flat sounds a step lower than the written note.
