About the Guitar
A guitar is a stringed instrument, usually with six strings, that you play by strumming or plucking with one hand while the other presses the strings against the neck. Some guitars are hollow and get their sound from the wooden body, while electric ones use a pickup and an amplifier to be heard. That difference lets the same instrument sound gentle around a campfire or loud on a stage. Print this for a music lesson and have children trace the path along the strings before coloring the body.
- Guitars usually have six strings, but twelve-string guitars pair them up for a fuller sound.
- An acoustic guitar is hollow and amplifies itself; an electric guitar needs a pickup and an amp.
- The strings are pressed against metal frets on the neck to change the notes.
