About the Wasp
A wasp is a narrow-waisted insect in the same order as bees and ants, but is neither of those. Wasps came first, and both bees and ants actually evolved from wasp-like ancestors long ago. Many kinds build papery nests by chewing wood into a soft pulp and can sting to defend themselves. This printable suits a garden-insect lesson comparing wasps with their bee and ant relatives.
- Bees and ants both evolved from ancient wasp ancestors.
- A pinched, narrow waist is a classic wasp feature.
- Stinging wasps belong to a group called the Aculeata.
