About the Aphid
Aphids are tiny insects that feed by sucking sweet sap from plant stems and leaves. They are famous for how fast they multiply: through much of the year, females give birth to live young without any males, and a newborn can already be carrying the next generation inside her. This lets a few aphids become a crowd in no time. Print this aphid for a garden lesson on the small bugs that gather on plants.
- Aphids often reproduce without males, giving live birth to female young.
- A newborn aphid can already be pregnant with the next generation.
- Common names include greenfly and blackfly.
