About the Lily
Lilies are flowering plants that grow from bulbs and open large, showy blooms, often shaped like wide trumpets or stars. Most kinds come from the cooler parts of the Northern Hemisphere. Many other plants borrow the name lily without being true lilies at all. Trace the six petals as they spread out, and note that true lilies are very poisonous to cats, so keep the real ones away from pets.
- True lilies grow from bulbs, unlike many plants that only share the name.
- True lilies are highly toxic to cats and should be kept away from them.
- Most lily species are native to the Northern Hemisphere.
