About the Chick
A chick is a baby bird, and most often the word means a baby chicken. Chicks hatch from eggs after their mother keeps them warm for about three weeks, and they come out covered in soft, fluffy down. They can walk and peck for food almost as soon as they hatch, staying close to the mother hen for warmth and safety. This printable is great for a farm or life-cycle lesson, and its round shape is easy for little hands to trace.
- A chick can chirp to its mother before it even hatches.
- It uses a small egg tooth to break out of the shell.
- Newly hatched chicks can already walk and feed themselves.
