About the Hand bell
A handbell is a bell with a handle, made to be rung by hand. When you swing it, a hinged clapper inside strikes the sides to sound one clear note, and each bell in a set plays a different pitch. Groups of ringers each hold a few bells and take turns so their notes join into a tune. Use this in a music lesson and trace down from the handle to the mouth of the bell.
- Each handbell rings a single note; a set covers a range of pitches.
- A team of ringers plays a melody by taking turns on their own bells.
- A hinged clapper inside strikes the bell when it is swung.
