About the Tick
Ticks are tiny arachnids, related to mites and spiders, that live by feeding on the blood of other animals. An adult tick is only a few millimeters across but can swell up much larger once it has had a meal. They cling to mammals, birds, and sometimes reptiles, often in warm, damp places. This printable can support a lesson on staying safe and checking for ticks after playing outdoors.
- Ticks are arachnids and relatives of mites, not insects.
- They feed on blood and swell up much larger after a meal.
- Ticks are most common in warm, humid climates.
