About the Earwig
Earwigs are slender insects easy to recognize by the pair of pincers at the tail end of the body. Despite an old myth, they have no interest in crawling into ears. Most kinds have wings neatly folded away beneath tiny wing-cases, though they rarely fly. Print this earwig for a garden lesson, following a path down to those curved pincers.
- Earwigs have a pair of pincers, called cerci, at the rear of the body.
- Their wings fold up under short cases and are seldom used.
- About 2,000 earwig species live on every continent but Antarctica.
