About the Dimetrodon
Dimetrodon lived during the Permian period, millions of years before the first dinosaurs walked the Earth. A tall "sail" of skin stretched over long spines on its back, which may have helped it warm up in the sun or show off to others. Although it is often grouped with dinosaurs, it was really a synapsid, part of the ancient line that eventually led to mammals. This printable works for a prehistoric-timeline lesson, and the spiny sail is a fun shape to trace.
- It lived in the Permian, before dinosaurs existed.
- A tall sail of skin ran along its back.
- Dimetrodon was a synapsid, closer to mammals than to dinosaurs.
