About the Pair of human lungs
Filling your chest with each breath, the lungs are a pair of soft, spongy organs that let you breathe. When you breathe in, they take oxygen from the air and pass it into your blood; when you breathe out, they push out waste air. Below them sits a dome-shaped muscle, the diaphragm, that pulls air in and out. Trace both lungs and take a big breath to feel them fill.
- The lungs pull oxygen from the air into your blood.
- A muscle below the lungs, the diaphragm, helps you breathe in and out.
