About the Flamingo
Wading through shallow water on long, thin legs, flamingos are easy to know by their curved necks and famously pink feathers. There are six kinds in all, spread across the Americas, Africa, Asia, and southern Europe. They actually hatch grey and only turn pink from the tiny shrimp and algae they eat in shallow water. Trace the long S-shaped neck down to the stilt-like legs, then color the bird a rosy pink.
- Flamingos are born grey and slowly turn pink from their food.
- A flamingo often stands and even sleeps balanced on just one leg.
