About the Rocket

A rocket is a tall, slender vehicle that blasts itself upward using a rocket engine. It carries its own fuel, so it can fly even in the empty vacuum of space where there is no air. The engine works by shooting hot gas out the back, which pushes the rocket the other way. Print this for a things-that-go or space lesson and trace the path from the fins up to the nose.

  • A rocket carries its own fuel, so it can fly where there is no air.
  • It moves by pushing hot gas out the back, shoving the rocket forward.
