About the Javelin
A javelin is a long, light spear built to be thrown as far as possible in track and field. An athlete sprints down a runway and hurls it with one arm, sending it arcing through the air. Unlike a bow or sling, the javelin flies on the power of the throw alone. Print this for a track-and-field day and trace the long line of the spear.
- Athletes take a running start before they let the javelin go.
- The javelin grew out of the spears people once used for hunting.
