About the Discus
The discus is a heavy, flat disc that athletes throw as far as they can in track and field. The thrower spins around fast inside a small circle to build up speed, then flings the disc into the air. It is one of the oldest sports around, thrown in the ancient Greek games more than 2,700 years ago. Trace this printable during a track-and-field or ancient-Olympics lesson and follow the disc's spin.
- Discus throwers spin in a full circle to fling the disc farther.
- The discus throw was an event in the ancient Greek games.
