About the Flying Fish
A flying fish cannot really fly, but it can leap out of the water and glide through the air on wing-like fins. It builds up speed underwater, bursts into the air, and can sail a long way over the surface, usually to escape a hungry predator below. Its stiff, spread fins act like the wings of a glider. Use this in an ocean unit and trace the path along the flying fish's outstretched fins.
- A flying fish glides on wide, wing-like fins after leaping from the water.
- It usually leaps to escape predators chasing it from below.
- Flying fish can glide a surprisingly long way over the sea.
