About the Dugong
A dugong is a sea mammal that looks a lot like its cousin the manatee, but with a tail more like a dolphin's. It grazes on sea grass growing on the ocean floor, using its wide, down-turned snout to dig up the plants. Dugongs live in warm coastal waters and are gentle and slow. Print this for an ocean unit and trace the path along the dugong to its forked tail.
- A dugong uses its broad snout to dig up sea grass from the seabed.
- Unlike a manatee, it has a forked tail like a dolphin's.
- The dugong belongs to the same group of sea mammals as the manatee.
