About the Bassoon
The bassoon is a tall woodwind instrument that plays low, deep notes and, like the oboe, uses a double reed. Its long wooden tube is folded in half so the player can manage its size, and it comes apart into several pieces for carrying. Its rich, sometimes comical low voice adds warmth to the bottom of the orchestra. Use this in a music lesson about low sounds and trace the path up the folded tube.
- The bassoon's long tube is folded in half to make it easier to hold.
- It plays in the tenor and bass ranges and uses a double reed.
- It is built from six pieces and usually made of wood.
