About the Hornbill
Hornbills are tropical birds with enormous, down-curved bills, often topped by a bump called a casque that looks like a little horn. They live in the forests of Africa, Asia, and nearby islands, eating fruit and small animals. Some hornbills seal the mother inside a tree hollow while she sits on the eggs, leaving just a slot for the father to pass food. Trace the huge curved beak and its horn-like bump.
- Many hornbills have a horn-like bump, called a casque, on top of the bill.
- Some hornbill mothers wall themselves into a tree hole to raise their chicks safely.
