About the Spoonbill
The spoonbill is a tall wading bird named for its long bill, which flares into a flat, rounded spoon at the tip. It feeds by sweeping that open bill side to side through shallow water, snapping it shut the moment it feels a fish or shrimp. Spoonbills live on wetlands and coasts across much of the world. Trace the long legs up to the odd spoon-shaped beak.
- A spoonbill's bill is flat and rounded like a spoon at the end.
- It swings its open bill through the water to feel for food.
