About the Panda
The giant panda is a black-and-white bear that lives only in the mountain forests of China. Although it is a bear, it eats almost nothing but bamboo, spending many hours a day munching through it. To help grip the stalks, a panda has an extra wrist bone that works a bit like a thumb. A cheerful fit for a China theme or a lesson on animals that eat only plants.
- Giant pandas eat bamboo for up to 14 hours a day.
- A panda has a special wrist bone that works like a thumb for holding bamboo.
- Giant pandas are a kind of bear and live only in China.
