About the Crab
Crabs are crustaceans with a hard shell, ten legs, and a pair of front claws for grabbing and pinching. Their legs bend outward at the sides, which is why crabs are famous for scuttling sideways rather than straight ahead. Many hide away in rocky cracks or bury themselves in sand to stay safe. A fun pick for a beach or tide-pool theme, sending kids sideways through the path.
- Crabs walk sideways because of the way their legs bend.
- A crab's front claws are used for grabbing food and for defense.
- Many crabs hide in rocky crevices or bury themselves in sand.
