About the Erhu
The erhu is a Chinese instrument with just two strings and a bow, sometimes called the Chinese violin. Its small round body is often covered with snakeskin, and the bow is threaded between the two strings so it never leaves them while playing. It has a singing voice that can sound close to a human one. Use this in a lesson about instruments from around the world and trace up the slender neck.
- The erhu has only two strings, yet can play smooth, singing melodies.
- The bow's hair runs between the two strings rather than over the top.
- It is the most popular of China's huqin bowed instruments.
