About the Damselfly

Damselflies are slender relatives of dragonflies, usually smaller and thinner in the body. The easiest way to tell them apart is at rest: a damselfly folds its wings back along its body, while a dragonfly holds its wings straight out. Their family has been flying since the age of the dinosaurs. Print this damselfly for a pond-life lesson comparing it with its bigger dragonfly cousin.

  • Damselflies fold their wings along the body at rest; dragonflies do not.
  • They are slimmer and usually smaller than dragonflies.
  • Their group has existed since the Late Jurassic.
