About the Excavator
With a long jointed arm that ends in a metal bucket, an excavator is the big digging machine you see on almost every site. The whole cab and arm sit on a base that can spin all the way around, so it can dig on one side and drop the dirt on the other. Wide tracks help it grip soft, muddy ground. Use it in a diggers-and-trucks theme, tracing the path along the arm to the bucket.
- An excavator's arm has a boom, a dipper, and a bucket, like a giant jointed elbow.
- The cab sits on a platform that can rotate a full circle.
- Many excavators roll on tracks instead of wheels to grip soft ground.
