About the Seaplane
Built to take off and land right on water, a seaplane needs no runway at all. There are two main kinds: floatplanes that rest on long pontoons, and flying boats whose whole body sits in the water like a hull. Because so much of Earth is covered in lakes and sea, seaplanes can reach places with no airport nearby. Use this outline for a lake or ocean theme and let children add ripples in the water below.
- Some seaplanes, called amphibians, also have wheels so they can land on solid ground too.
- A flying boat floats on its own boat-shaped body instead of on separate floats.
