About the Comet
A comet is a chunk of ice, dust, and rock that travels through the solar system on a long path around the Sun. When it comes close to the Sun, its ice warms and turns to gas, forming a glowing cloud and a long tail. That tail always points away from the Sun, no matter which way the comet is heading. Use this in an astronomy unit and trace the path along the comet's tail.
- A comet's tail always points away from the Sun.
- The tail forms when the Sun's heat turns the comet's ice into gas.
- A comet is made of ice, dust, and rock.
