About the Pizza
Pizza starts with a flat round of wheat dough that gets topped with tomato, cheese, and whatever else you like, then baked in a very hot oven. The tradition comes from Italy, where the oldest pizzas were cooked in ovens fired by burning wood. A wood fire pushes the heat far past what a home oven can reach, which is why a real Neapolitan pizza bakes in only a minute or two. Set this printable out at a pizza-party station and let kids trace the path before they design their own paper toppings.
- Traditional pizza is baked in a wood-fired oven that runs far hotter than a home oven.
- The base is leavened dough, meaning yeast makes it rise before baking.
- Tomato and cheese are the classic toppings, but almost any food can go on top.
