About the Barn
A barn is a large farm building used to shelter animals and to store hay, grain, and equipment. Cows, horses, and other livestock can stay warm and dry inside through cold or wet weather. Many are painted red, a tradition that began because the paint farmers mixed was cheap and long-lasting. This one suits a farm-animals theme, where kids can name the animals that might live inside as they trace the way in.
- Barns store hay and grain and give farm animals a place to shelter.
- Different barns have special names, such as a dairy barn, a tobacco barn, or a cow house.
- A hayloft is an upper level of the barn where dry hay is kept.
