About the Human hip joint
The hip is the joint on each side of your body where the top of your leg meets the pelvis. It is a ball-and-socket joint: the rounded top of the thigh bone fits into a cup-shaped hollow, like a ball in a bowl. That design lets your leg swing forward, back, and out to the side. Trace the joint, then swing your own leg to feel the ball turn in its socket.
- The hip is a ball-and-socket joint, letting the leg move many ways.
- The round top of the thigh bone fits into a cup in the pelvis.
